Railway Safety

Supporting safe train operation, improved staff work efficiency and increased customer satisfaction by video Edge AI technology

Our AI system supports safe train operation by detecting entry onto the tracks or at railroad crossings. In addition, the system can improve customer satisfaction by detecting and reporting the arrival of passengers who need assistance when they use the station, and quickly dispatching an attendant to assist them. The AI system can be used for various purposes by changing the AI application used at the edge (on-site).

Selling Points

To ensure the safe operation of trains, AI monitors an intrusion of people and animals on the tracks and at railroad crossings 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and alerts the administrator if there is an intrusion.

Our AI system detects wheelchairs, white cane users and baby strollers that require assistance when using stations and auxiliary facilities, and quickly notifies staff of their arrival to provide prompt assistance.

At unmanned stations or small stations with no staff at the ticket gate, the use of the ticket gate and fare box by passengers can be monitored by surveillance cameras to improve customer convenience.

Standard Features

24 hours a day, 365 days a year, surveillance camera video is used as input to an AI Box installed onsite (at the edge) to perform AI inference processing in real time onsite.

When an event that is to be notified by the AI application is detected at the edge, it can be reported to the administrator. Depending on the system configuration, the status can be notified in a variety of ways, such as via e-mail or LINE, by turning on or blinking a warning lamp, or by displaying a message on a display or a simple LED display board.

Information on events detected at the edge can be sent to external systems via HTTP POST method or MQTT messages. If you already have a your own system, we can confirm the interface specifications in advance and link it to your system.

Usage Scenarios

Detection of access to railroad tracks and railroad crossings

The AI system detects and notifies the intrusion of people, bicycles, vehicles, animals, etc., in areas where entry would interfere with the safe operation of trains (on the tracks or near railroad crossings), based on images captured by surveillance cameras within the camera's angle of view. Real-time detection and notification of intrusion reduces the risk of serious accidents.

Detection of users requiring assistance

The AI system detects wheelchair users, white canes users and users pushing baby strollers who require assistance when using the station's ticket gates, stairs, restrooms, etc., using surveillance camera images, and notifies the station staff. Upon receiving a notification, the station staff can support them promptly.

Monitoring of ticket gate and fare box usage at unmanned stations

The AI system can acquire data to improve customer convenience by grasping and analyzing the status of customer use of ticket gates and fare boxes from images captured by surveillance cameras installed near them. The system can determine from AI posture estimation and image recognition whether the number of ticket gates and fare boxes installed is sufficient and whether there are any problems with customer use during busy times, and can be used for station building operation planning.
